Replacing Bushes in Front End

Hi all,
Was wondering if the following pics of a worn "hole" on the body for the mounting of the top bushes is anything too be concerned about. My mechanic says there shouldnt be so much of a wear mark in the hole where the bushes go thru the chassis? He is going to weld it back to "round" but says something has caused it and I ask your advice to what may have ??

And is there a chance that the alignment of the sub-frame is out causing the holes to wear unevenly ?

I have never seen that before - it looks like the front subframe has been moving around and the crush tubes hitting the chassis rails to wear into them like that.

The rubber bush looks a bit strange like maybe the step had not been located properly in the chassis rail properly before tightening or maybe it wasn't tightened properly.

I reckon you should leave the upper control arm bolts in the bottom holes where they are now. There is another thread about this somewhere.

The extra holes are "XU1" spec. They give the car a bit more adjustability in camber for better cornering or something along those lines. It is common to have two holes because that's how they did them.

looks like the wear is from the xmember movement.
check that when you install the member is it central to the locating holes.
maybe the bushes were loose over time and fixing the wear and new bushes should fix the problem.

I have had a bit more of a think about this, if the outrigger bush on one side was stuffed, it could allow it to pivot to 1 side and damage the rail like that.

If the bushes all looked okay, maybe they were changed previously and someone convieniently ignored the oval shaped holes - just food for thought if you cannot find the problem.

Can you see a wear spot on the crush tubes where it has been rubbing on the chassis rails?

Has anyone here got access to the Tech Drawings for the LH/LX's etc so I know the exact measurements between points on the subframe, front end and where they all should bolt together etc ??

My mechaninc thinks car may have had a hit at some stage adding to the poor alignment of the bushes and some of the other adjustments/bolts not seeming to be truely aligned up with holes ... blah blah blah. One small problems seems to keep leading to another !!!

Should the two rubbers that go into subframe on each side be exact distance apart? My back rubbers are about 15-20 mm wider from centre of rubber to centre of runner compared to the two at the front of the subframe.

A few people have measured the distance between the K-frame bolt holes.

From the other thread it appears 794F and 792R centre to centre was the result for three k-frames and one 790F and 789R.

I measured my power steering front end which is LX RTS and it was 789F and 787R which made me think it had sagged from the V8 and power steering mods. I then measured the spare UC front which had a six and and came up with the same measurements. So I guess it must be within typical tolerance's.
